Repair streamside trails on National Trails Day

Over the course of 3 projects in 2021, volunteers will work with the City of Longmont to repair and fill low areas along 15 miles of trail adjacent to the St. Vrain and Lefthand Creek greenways. Over time, the edge of these crusher fine trails begins to deteriorate from a number of environmental impacts and general trail usage. As the trail edge degrades, the surface level with the adjacent concrete surface changes resulting in a lip that is a potential trip hazard and a challenging surface for disabled users.

Volunteers will fill low spots in the trail edge using shovels and rakes with city staff assisting on materials delivery and staging.

Primary Activity: Garbage clean up
Accessibility: Easy walk
Family Friendly

COVID Protocols

WRV meets all local public health and CDC guidelines in hosting volunteer events. Our main priority is the safety and well-being of our volunteers, staff and community, and we are committed to doing our part to slow community spread of COVID-19 in order to protect vulnerable populations. Group sizes are capped according to the State of Colorado’s COVID-19 dial: Limit of 10 volunteers in counties at Levels Orange, Red & Purple Limit of 25 volunteers in counties at Level Yellow Limit of 50 volunteers in counties at Levels Green & Blue WRV will contact registered participants if we postpone or make changes to events. Our activities allow for and encourage at least a 6-foot physical separation. Things like seed collections and habitat plantings already work best when participants are widely spaced across the landscape, and use of certain tools already requires a 6-foot safety radius. Many of our restoration sites are also closed to the public, providing an opportunity to enjoy outdoor recreation safely while not over-burdening our open space areas. It is important to note that activities such as spending time outdoors, getting exercise, and volunteering for a cause you believe in all convey benefits for our health and well-being. Therefore we encourage you to continue to take precautions, but also to get outside and stay active! As we head into our second season implementing COVID protocols, we will continue to listen to our volunteers and monitor guidance from CDC, state and local authorities to make adjustments as circumstances change. Together, our goal remains to heal the land and build community to the best of our ability, especially at times like these.
